Podcast Interview:
RC: Hello, everyone. This is Liz Harvey coming to you from our studios in New York City where we are dedicated to bringing you top quality advice from many of the leading expert professionals across the US.
In today’s episode, we are speaking with Dr. Warren Bleiweiss about the exciting field of regenerative medicine. He is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. His long list of accomplishments includes leadership experience as a hospital anesthesiology department director, the inventor of the patented medical device, and the founder of one of the first multidisciplinary pain management centers in New Jersey.
Dr. Bleiweiss is a member of the American Academy of stem cells Physicians. He has been successfully treating patients for over 30 years. He’s a strong believer of the body’s innate ability to heal itself. He believes his job as a physician is to find a way to activate that healing mechanism by using nonsurgical treatment protocols without utilizing drugs.
Dr. Bleiweiss has been practicing regenerative medicine protocols such as ozone, stem cells, and PRP. He pioneered the oxygen ozone disc injection therapy to treat herniated discs in the United States and North America, which is a powerful regenerative treatment. This medical ozone injection procedure has enabled the vast majority of his patients to recover from herniated disc conditions without surgery or medication.
Today, we are discussing anti-aging treatments that treat the upstream aspects of aging. Hello, Dr. Bleiweiss. How are you today?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: I’m great, thank you.
What is an upstream anti-aging treatment?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: It’s an anti-aging treatment that treats the source of aging, which is at the cellular level. Most anti-aging treatments such as hormones, vitamins, and antioxidants treat the symptoms only. That’s why they fail to reverse aging and often only have a superficial or temporary effect. I refer to those type of treatments as downstream treatments because they don’t treat the cause or the upstream event.
So, a good analogy of this is, let’s say you have a house with a leaky roof and every time it rains, the ceiling in your bedroom becomes more and more damaged. And you could keep the roof looking nice by spackling it and painting it. And if you go into the room, it looks fine, but you haven’t fixed the source of the problem. So, eventually the beams and the roof are going to rot and collapse, and if you don’t fix that, the whole house will crumble. And that is the equivalent of a downstream anti-aging treatment. So, if instead you fix the roof shingles and the leak, which is equivalent to an upstream treatment, the ceiling and the whole house will be fine. So, that’s basically how the upstream treatments work and why they’re so powerful.
Could you give us some examples of upstream anti-aging treatments and why you consider them so useful?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: Yes, I would love to. This is a great topic and I’m really excited about it. I also feel really good today because I do these treatments myself, so let’s get right into it. So, it’s such an exciting topic that I could talk about it for hours, which I won’t do because I don’t want to bore all of you. So, let’s just touch on some of the important aspects of upstream anti-aging treatments.
In a previous interview I talked about senescent zombie cells, which I said sounds like a bad science fiction movie, but it’s actually true. These cells are cells that should have died, but instead linger in a half-alive state in our body and produce substances that are literally poison and toxic to our cells.
So, any upstream anti-aging treatment has to reduce the zombie cell burden in a safe and effective manner in order to be an effective treatment. I have to stress that this has to be done in a safe and effective manner, because if the treatments for the zombie cells are overzealous, they could actually affect the normal cells in the body and actually accelerate aging. So, I take great care in making sure that doesn’t happen and they’re treated properly.
The next thing that I want to discuss is Vsel treatments. Vsels are fascinating. They’re very small, embryonic-like stem cells, and they circulate in our blood in an inactive form. By using various techniques, Vsels can be isolated and activated to produce powerful anti-aging effects. They also produce an enzyme that can actually increase the telomere length of DNA, and this has been proven.
Without going into too much detail, let’s just say that DNA telomere shortening is a problem with aging. Every time a cell divides, the telomeres of the DNA become shorter. When they become too short, the cell can no longer divide. Therefore, any treatment that has a potential to increase telomere length has a powerful anti-aging potential. The other thing is that few practices in the country are able to offer this Vsel treatment at this time.
I now want to talk about NAD infusions. NAD is one of the most vital compounds in the body. Without it, we wouldn’t even survive for one single second. It’s necessary for cells to produce energy, mitochondria and cellular health and DNA repair in addition to other functions like improving neuronal function. Therefore, supplementing NAD with infusions and oral supplements is an important aspect of any upstream anti-aging treatment.
It is, however, very important to note that NAD will improve the health of all cells in our body, including the zombie cells that we previously discussed. Therefore, it’s very important to reduce the senescent zombie cell burden before instituting NAD infusion treatments. Any center that does NAD infusion that doesn’t address the zombie cells is not doing a service to their patients. I can’t stress how important that is.
There were also other supplements that are very important for upstream anti-aging when used in the proper doses, such as pterostilbene, which is more potent than resveratrol. Curcumin, nitric oxide, berberine, and the peptide called BP-157. Now, each of these supplements is a complex topic that I don’t have time on this discussion to fully get into, but I just want to say that they are very valuable supplements and we use these in all of our upstream anti-aging treatments.
