Podcast Interview:
RC: Hello, everyone. This is Liz Harvey coming to you from our studios in New York City where we are dedicated to bringing you top quality advice from many of the leading expert professionals across the US.
In today’s episode, we are speaking with Dr. Warren Bleiweiss about the exciting field of regenerative medicine. He is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and is board certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. His long list of accomplishments includes leadership experience as a hospital anesthesiology department director, the inventor of a patented medical device, and the founder of one of the first multidisciplinary pain management centers in New Jersey.
Dr. Bleiweiss is a member of the American Academy of stem cells Physicians. He has been successfully treating patients for over 30 years. He is a strong believer of the body’s innate ability to heal itself. He believes his job as a physician is to find a way to activate that healing mechanism by using nonsurgical treatment protocols without utilizing drugs.
Dr. Bleiweiss has been practicing regenerative medicine protocols such as ozone, stem cells, and PRP. He pioneered the oxygen ozone disc injection therapy to treat herniated discs in the United States and North America, which is a powerful regenerative treatment. This medical ozone injection procedure has enabled the vast majority of his patients to recover from herniated disc conditions without surgery or medication.
Today we are discussing ozone disc injections for the treatment of herniated discs and why it is the best treatment option.
Hello, Dr. Bleiweiss, how are you today?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: I’m doing great, thank you.
RC: Well, thanks for joining me again.
We talked about ozone disc injections for herniated discs in the past. Since we are getting a lot of questions from our listeners, could you please give us an overview of this treatment?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: Yes. I would be very happy to. Ozone disc injections are an excellent treatment option for people who are suffering from neck and back pain and sciatica due to a disc herniation or a bulge who have not improved with conservative treatment options, including treatments such as physical therapy, chiropractic therapy, acupuncture, epidural steroids, anti-inflammatory medications, and rest just to name a few. In that case, well, what do you do if you’re still having pain? Just living with the pain is not a good option. It’s unhealthy and it’s depressing and it’s literally unhealthy. Because with that option, people essentially slowly just go downhill physically.
Before ozone disc injection, surgery was the only other option. Surgery of the spine, however, is invasive, has significant downtime, is not always successful, and changes the normal anatomy of the disc forever. There was also the dreaded risk of permanent, increased pain after the procedure, which is known as failed back syndrome. The disc that was operated on also has an increased chance over time of becoming degenerative. Ozone disc injections are just as long lasting and effective as surgery. They are a safe, outpatient procedure with no significant downtime.
Ozone disc injections also do not change the normal anatomy of the disc, do not produce scar tissue, do not accelerate degeneration and are actually healthy to the disc. The ozone disc injection works in part by shrinking the herniated portion of the disc just enough to take the pressure off of the spinal nerve that is being compressed and irritated without reducing the height of the disc. Ozone also has many long-term benefits that improve the health of the spinal disc, so we are very fortunate to have this great treatment option available for herniated discs.
Why do you consider it the best treatment option for disc herniation?
Dr. Warren Bleiweiss: All right. I want to start by pointing out that when patients come to me for the ozone disc injection procedures, they have typically tried multiple other treatments and are still experiencing pain and dysfunction. They don’t want to just live with the pain and the limitations that go along with it and they want to avoid spine surgery if at all possible.
I’ve already discussed the numerous downsides and the risks of spine surgery in the previous question. So, to me, there’s no doubt that ozone disc injections are the best treatment option for painful disc herniations. It’s not only just as effective and long-lasting as surgery, but it has none of the downsides and risks of surgery. It’s actually healthy for the disc. It doesn’t alter the anatomy or the height of the disc and it doesn’t accelerate disc degeneration. There’s also no significant downtime after the procedure.
I’m very happy to be able to offer this treatment option for my patients for so many years and I’m grateful that I’ve been able to help so many people with painful disc herniations with this ozone disc injection treatment.
RC: Well, thank you, Dr. Bleiweiss. We know you’re busy, so I want to thank you for your time and your help today.
